Lakshmi Menon from Kerala won the title of Miss South India at the 16th edition of the event conducted by Pegasus, beating out 22 other contestants. Shrisha and Dushara from Tamil Nadu were declared as the first and second runner up respectively.
The event was guided under the direction of Dr Ajit Ravi and was presented by Manappuram Finance Ltd and DQ Watches. The winner Lakshmi Menon was crowned by Bavithra, the former winner of the title.
The beauty competition took place in three rounds categorised in designer sari, red cocktail and black gown. The judge panel comprised of model, actress and writer Vanisree Bhatt, model and actor Rajeev Pillai, actress Uma Riyaz Khan, Miss Asia International first runner-up 2016 Rashmi Thakur, and South India 2017 Preethi Kitchappan.
Menon was awarded with Rs 1 lakh, the second runner Rs 40,000 by Manappuram Finance Ltd and first runner up with Rs 60,000 by Saara Media. The money raised in this event will be used in the 100 life challenge programme, brainchild of Dr Ajit Ravi to give financial aid to the heart patients. An expert panel of fashion choreographers and trainers were also involved grooming these young models. Aileena Catherin Amon (Miss South India 2015), Reji Bhaskar (Fashion Photographer), and Vibin Xavier (Fitness trainer) are some names which were included in the panel.
